Launch of Tsebo’s inaugural Sustainability Report

We are proud to announce that Tsebo has taken a significant leap forward in our sustainability journey – ensuring we remain focused on being a powerful force for good.

Through the publication of our inaugural Sustainability Report, Tsebo has made our commitment public to accelerate our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives, officially reporting on these efforts, benchmarking results, setting targets and tracking our progress into the future.

As an ethical business, it has always been our intention to minimise our environmental impact and maximise social good through community partnerships and CSR initiatives while aligning and propelling the shared goals of our clients and partners. However, it was only through centralising our data that we could begin to understand the true impact of these efforts, some of which include:

  • R200 million worth of energy usage reduction achieved for clients
  • 87.1 tonnes of plastic and paper waste-to-landfill prevented
  • +95% of all seafood sustainably sourced from the SASSI green list
  • +40 000 training and development interventions (Learning and Development spend = 4.2% of annual leviable amount)
  • 82% global benchmark score received for people practices as a Certified Top Employer SA
  • 60% female employees, with 42.3% female representation in Senior Management
  • 82% average Client Satisfaction score with a 95% average Client Retention rate
  • +200 certified local-to-local community suppliers
  • +32.2 million USD total domestic spend on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives across Africa

To further our efforts, we have partnered with organisations like the World Economic Forum, the UN Global Compact and ESG rating platforms Risk Insights and EcoVadis. Furthermore, our CEOs have made personal commitments to positive change in Africa by becoming official members of the UN Global Compact’s Africa Business Leaders Coalition (ABLC) – a call to action for business leaders to unite for a more sustainable, prosperous Africa.

These steps mark another significant chapter in Tsebo’s 50-year history of nurturing ethical relationships with our clients, employees, communities, suppliers and other stakeholders.

Can SA’s energy crisis help pave the way forward for service delivery?

As South Africans continue to face unprecedented load-shedding levels, the government is changing its approach to provide a framework for local businesses to become a part of the solution to transform the energy sector.

From state-owned Eskom enlisting experts from the private sector to fast tracking the removal of red tape that allows private embedded generation projects to sell excess electricity, the president has set the stage for a win-win solution for government and business.

Let’s talk Energy – Our Solutions

sustainable energy solutions

Tsebo Solutions Group is acutely aware of the challenges and uncertainty caused by erratic energy supply which leads to various levels of loadshedding.

Loadshedding is causing havoc in the business environment where we are reading horror stories of companies facing closure or enormous diesel costs just to keep the lights on. Staff who previously were happy to work from home are migrating back to the office placing strain on existing energy support capacity leading to board room discussions seeking short to medium term solutions to a challenge which will be with us for some time.

Holistic service offering. Tailored solutions. Expert delivery.

The South African government’s recent response to South Africa’s energy crisis has made it clear that sustainable energy will play a significant role in transforming the energy sector. By providing a framework that aims to cut red tape and reduce regulatory requirements for renewable projects, the government has empowered the private sector to become part of the energy solution.

THE CHALLENGE

Loadshedding has severely impacted businesses with devastating financial consequences as a result of down time, not to mention the detrimental effect of unplanned outages and power surges on company assets.

While new legislation will make it easier for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and larger organisations to benefit from various sustainable energy solutions, and even generate and sell excess energy to the national grid, renewable energy is not a one size fits all solution. The initial infrastructure investment is expensive and unscrupulous dealers often ‘over-sell’ over-priced systems that do not work in tandem, match the company’s requirements or comply with complex regulations.

Your Energy Performance Certification Partner (EPC)

YOUR ENERGY PERFORMANCE CERTIFICATION PARTNER (EPC)

Holistic service offering. Tailored solution. Expert delivery.

In December 2020, the South African government gazetted legislation making it mandatory for offices and private non-residential buildings (malls, universities, sports complexes, etc.) larger than 2,000 m2 to submit information on their building’s energy performance – and to publicly display these certificates at the entrance to their buildings.

The regulations are similar to those in existence in the UK and EU and are a first step to reducing energy consumption in line with the global net-zero challenge for buildings – the energy used by a building in a year should not exceed the amount of renewable energy created on site.

With a decade of experience in reporting on Energy Use Intensity (EUI) and a portfolio of clients that span the continent, Tsebo Energy is perfectly positioned to assist organisations in meeting the requirements of the new legislation. We provide accurate analyses and reporting, and can help to significantly reduce a building’s energy use and costs.
